About the event

“Another milestone in folk’s rebirth of cool.” Songlines

Gigspanner is Peter Knight (violin), Roger Flack (guitar) and Sacha Trochet (drums). The Gigspanner Trio has been described by Folk Radio UK as one of the “most quietly brilliant sets of musicians in the folk world and beyond” and we feel absolutely privileged to host this concert in the wonderful Spire Church in Farnham. Thanks to Peter Knight’s support, we are able to showcase a very talented young singer-songwriter, Amy Hollinrake, who will be opening the concert.

In the wake of his departure from Steeleye Span, fiddle player Peter Knight has turned his full attention to his trio Gigspanner, and in the process established their reputation as one of the most genuinely ground-breaking forces on the British folk scene, inspiring Maverick magazine to write "Gigspanner are pushing at the boundaries, expanding the possibilities and in the process making some of the most beautiful music the genre has to offer".

Taking self-penned material along with music rooted in the British Isles and beyond, with the flick of a bow, a finely chosen chord or slip of a beat, Gigspanner produce richly atmospheric arrangements “with notes seemingly plucked from the stars and rhythms from the equator”  Spiral Earth

Amy Hollinrake is a rising artist emerging from the South-East London folk scene. Her songs re-imagine the stories in folklore and mythology through a modern feminist lens, soundtracked by her hauntingly beautiful and earthy brand of contemporary alt-folk.

'Hollinrake’s voice captivates, a Sandy Denny for a new century' For Folk's Sake

This concert is dedicated to raising funds for Creative Response, an independent arts charity in Farnham providing and promoting access to creative practice and the arts for the wellbeing of vulnerable people in our community. Registered Charity No. 1096890
